The Idea of the Network

Following number of self-initiated discussions among representatives of couple of organizations and activists working on Education, combating Antigypsyism and Roma inclusion, following number of coordination meetings and informal actions since 2016, a group of Roma activists decided to implant the cornerstones of a new initiative for a Europe wide approach to challenges that Roma face in their everyday life. The informal group agreed to build a joint strategy based on joint understanding of National and Europe wide challenges and act in a coordinated manner against the strong waves of Antigypsyism whenever and wherever it presents danger to the human rights, dignity and prosperity of the Roma communities. “The informal group will act in a form of a European Network of civil society organizations following a jointly agreed strategy, principles and action plan. The name of the network is “European Roma Equality Network – EREN” and will act in the geographical area of the European Union with emphasizes to Western Balkans. The network’s actions and activities will cover initiatives in the fields of Education, Employment, Housing and Health by promoting human rights based approach, structural dialogue and non- formal education.

Mission

As an independent, democratic and highly qualified platform to become a credible voice of Roma ethnic minority, empowering force of Roma leadership structures and respected partner in the international scene

EREN is the only Pan-European Network of Civil Society Organizations led by Roma. All of its members are proved change makers in Western Balkans with outstanding background in number of fields such as early childhood education, academic support for tertiary education, capacity building of Roma youth, human rights education, advocacy and leadership.

The organizations came together to join forces and build synergies in the processes of fighting antigypsyism in local institutions and increase the capacities of Roma Community, NGO and Political leaders in European Union, so the whole word will be NGO and Political leaders in European Union, Western Balkans and Turkey by using human rights education and advocacy tools.
